Kumar Sangakkara, who has been long tipped as the future Sri Lankan captain, will take over the captaincy of Central Province after Muttiah Muralitharan was forced to withdraw from the Provincial Tournament because of his troublesome shoulder.Murali was sidelined for at least six weeks and has an “outside chance”of being fit in time for Sri Lanka’s tour of New Zealand in April aftersuffering a partial tendon tear in his bowling shoulder. Sangakkara will get his first taste of captaincy during the month-long Provincial tournament, the premier first-class tournament in Sri Lanka, which was introduced last year.The Sri Lankan board also announced the 20-man squad of probables for the four sides. A final 15-man match squad will be selected 48 hours before each game by the respective captain, coach and appointed selector.The tournament starts this weekend and will be covered live on Cricinfo.Central Province
