Once again, Liverpool picked up all three points in the Premier League.

The Reds played away at Molineux against Wolves, and it proved to be an enticing game. They went 1-0 up within the first 10 minutes as Jordan Henderson headed in Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross, but the Midlands outfit came back at their opponents and levelled things up six minutes into the second half through Raul Jimenez’s header.

However, it was the Anfield outfit that picked up all three points through Roberto Firmino late on, and they have now taken their lead at the top of the table back to 16 points.

The big fat Liverpool quiz of 2019 – how much do you remember about the last year at Anfield?

The Brazil international, normally Jurgen Klopp’s centre-forward, ended up playing further back following Sadio Mane’s injury. Although he spent a lot of time on the left wing, he took up a mostly roaming role, as his goal, which came from the right flank, showed.

All in all, it was a very good display from the 28-year-old. He managed two key passes, as well as 58 touches. He also had three shots on target, keeping Rui Patricio busy between the sticks, and he made three tackles as well.

Klopp’s side are now within touching distance of the title and are the European champions, but even with that recent success, there will still be the need for progress in the future. Whilst Firmino did bag the winner here, there are still questions about his goal-scoring ability – this is just his 10th of the season in all competitions – and there have also been links with RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner.

The 23-year-old has been in stunning form so far this campaign, with 25 goals and 10 assists in 26 matches, and the latest update – from the Transfer Window Podcast – says that the Merseyside club could complete a deal before the summer, with him having a release clause of €60m (£50.5m) as per Bild.

Instead of taking his place, though, Werner could complement Firmino and allow him to take up a slightly deeper role in a 4-2-3-1 formation. This is one that Klopp has used on several occasions this season, and they have won every single match with that set-up in the league.

It would therefore not be unfamiliar, and would give Liverpool the best of both worlds: a prolific goalscorer, whilst also having an influential player still on the pitch in a position that is perhaps even more involved in the play. Firmino could play in between the lines as he did against Wolves, and look to get the best out of his teammates, whilst also retaining the ability to chip in with vital goals too.

A Werner-Firmino link-up is potentially mouth-watering.
